Frequently Asked Questions

Why is your approach different to therapy I’ve had elsewhere?

A 'passive' treatment approach often involves a technical spiel before a manual treatment that may not be warranted. In persistent pain cases especially, this approach is not adequate for long-term improvement. My active approach helps you gain an understanding of the nature of your problem and places the control firmly back with you.

Michael Dodds Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect?

You can expect to be listened to and given an understanding of your concern and the possible reasons behind it. Some causes of pain may not be apparent to you at first, so 'pain education' is important to help build a clearer picture of your problem.

A physical examination follows, which analyses your story to bring further clarity. The findings are then communicated to you in a meaningful way and will form the basis of future management.

Sometimes treatments such as soft tissue work, acupuncture, taping etc. may be helpful but these always take place in conjunction with education, goal setting and rehabilitation during a consultation with you.

Follow-up sessions are not always needed and depend on the nature of your problem. High frequency treatments are rarely necessary for any conditions and are not advocated here.

Michael Dodds Frequently Asked Questions

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please arrive 10 minutes early for your first appointment, as you will need to fill out a details form and possibly a short questionnaire.

Please wear or bring clothing appropriate for the area to be examined. Footwear or sporting equipment might also be helpful if practical and relevant to your problem.

Michael Dodds Frequently Asked Questions

What do I do if I have private medical insurance?

I am registered with all major insurance companies. For administrative reasons I do not invoice on your behalf, but instead issue you a receipt as you pay after each session.

It is your responsibility to check whether you are covered for physiotherapy and to find out what your fund limit is, if you have an excess to pay and whether you need to see a GP prior to a first appointment.

Please call 07916 286779 if you are unsure what to do.
