Sports Injuries

Acute or persistent pain or injury relating to participation in sport or sport performance is classed as a sports injury. Factors such as fitness, technique, equipment, training volumes, lifestyle, skill level and psychology all need to be considered when finding a solution to your problem and achieving your goals. I have successfully helped many sports people this way.

I can help you get back to work and stay at work by looking at factors such as ergonomics (positions, movements and equipment related to work), posture, physical capacity and job demands, fitness, lifestyle and psychosocial factors (aspects of life generally that may affect the way you think, cope and respond to pain or injury).

Work Screening

The physical and mental requirements of a desk job or manual work, can occasionally predispose you to pain or injury. Corporate or individual screening can help reduce the risk factors that can leave you in pain, underperforming or absent from work. Conditioning programmes are based around the findings of the screen and specific job requirements.

Post Surgery

Pain, muscle inhibition and a desire to regain function are some of the main reasons we seek help after surgery. The earlier these are addressed; the quicker you will recover with a lower chance of on-going problems. I have an excellent understanding of pain and the nervous system to help you make a full recovery. After reconstructive surgery (e.g. shoulder or knee) it is important to start the rehabilitation from day one in line with your surgeons’ protocols. Pre-surgery programmes are also a useful way to improve function before your operation and can accelerate recovery.

Post Fracture

Muscle wasting, weakness, stiffness, deconditioning and fear of re-injury are some of the issues people face when healing from a fracture. My hands-on treatment and active graded exercises will help steer you back on course in a timely manner. Don’t wait until after the cast is off to get some advice, as there are many ways to keep the surrounding joints fit and supple while you are on the mend. Come and see me if you are unsure what you can do.
